'84 Toyota Celica a60
Aquí os dejo este coche que me encontré navegando, para animar un poco ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s a girl’s car… When asking girls in Japan a question such as “what’s your hobby?”, the answer almost always seems to revolve around shopping. So when we met mild-mannered Ayu and she replied saying she liked cars, we thought it was just a case of her hanging out with her boyfriend when he goes to the circuit. How wrong we were. As it turns out cars aren’t just a hobby for Ayu, they’re more of a lifestyle. The 28 year old shop assistant works in a tool shop selling desirable goodies like Snap-on tools and has been drifting for the past 10 years now. Back when she started driving sideways she was doing it in a Mitsubishi Starion Conquest and eventually moved onto the Toyota Celica you see here. She’s also a member of a drift team called Kacho Fuel and her favorite D1 driver is Shinji Minowa. This girl is all about cars, not just drifters either, she’s a big fan of low rider trucks such as ground scraping Toyota Hiluxes. Some of her other likes seem positively boring compared to her passion for cars. For example, her favorite food is rice, plain rice. Well, at least she’s got her priorities right with the cars. As the focus of our conversation turns to her car and I start snapping away with my camera it’s quickly noted that there’s a lack of any crazy rear wing or scratched up side skirts. Ayu explains that she likes to keep the body of the car stock and show the original lines off rather than cover it in unnecessary fiberglass add-ons when she builds her drift machines, then keep a nicely worked engine under the bonnet that packs a punch. It’s a classic style. And when I meant ‘build her cars’ I meant it. This girl isn’t shy when it comes to swinging a spanner and does a lot of the work herself. Her current ride, a 1984 Celica 2 door coupe, has been in her possession for around six years now and is the second Celica coupe she’s owned. While the body shows obvious signs of abuse, as many a drift car does, lift the bonnet and it’s a different story. Sitting there on center stage is a 7AGE built with various bits and pieces. The head is equipped with unknown brand cams measuring 272 degrees in the inlet side and 288 degrees on the outlet side. Fuel comes courtesy of four MSR carburettors and spark is carried by a set of 9mm FET ERG plug leads. Once power is made, around 170 horsepower in all, the waste is disposed of through some shiny stainless steel extractors. They’re not the only shiny part of the engine bay though. There are bright pink bits a plenty, which contrast well with the matte black engine bay paint. If that wasn’t enough to convince onlookers of who owns this car, then written on the fuse box is Ayu’s name and some the engine’s specs. That engine bay artwork is all Ayu’s work, too. Move into the cabin and there’s nothing too outrageous here. Things are more about safety than comfort. The big additions are the Saito half cage and Momo Corse racing seats to keep Ayu safe, while a monster tacho and shift light is there to help keep the in the engine safe zone. There’s also a Momo steering wheel, which is power assisted. The steering has been tinkered with further with the fitment of some custom steering knuckles. Giving the car that low look and sharp handling are some customized Bilz coilovers controlling the front with some TRD shocks and coils giving the rear that squat look. In the grip department some 15 x 8.5 inch mismatched wheels with -5mm offset give plenty of dish and to help the engine spin both rear wheels in unison is a TRD 2 way Limited-slip differential. Ayu tells us she drives the car regularly around Yokohama and that this style Celica is her favorite car so when this one is finally laid to rest she’ll search for another to replace it. Which might not be in the too distant future as towards the end of the Ebisu Drift Matsuri (more on that event later) the 7AGE finally let go so a rebuilt will be on the cards, unless she stumbles across a Type 1 VW Beetle, which is another car Ayu has a sweet spot for. Now that’s something we’d like to see this girl drifting!

Re: '84 Toyota Celica a60
